Addis Ababa, 7 June 2019. The Embassy of Cuba to Ethiopia and the African Union celebrated Africa Day 2019 with the event "Afro Cuban Soirée: from the African Diaspora to the Mother Continent". The Deputy Chairperson of the AUC, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey was in attendance, as well as diplomats from Africa and other countries of the world, Ethiopians that studied in Cuba and the Cuban community.
During four hours, good music, food and drinks were enjoyed. Two painting exhitions of artists of Afro-Cuban origin were displayed in the ballroom: one of Manuel Mendive´s artworks donated to the African Union in 2002. The second was dedicated to Wifredo Lam. The occasion served also to highlight the existence of two Cuban musical rhythms named after African countries: the Mozambique and the Conga.
