Addis Ababa, May 27, 2026.- The Library of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) hosted the commemoration of Africa Day, under the theme "Africa and Cuba: Culture, memory, education and solidarity".
The event brought together friends from Ethiopia, Angola, Ghana, Congo Brazzaville, as well as representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Ethiopia, in a space for reflection, culture and brotherhood.
The documentary “Cuba in Africa” was screened, accompanied by interventions from African graduates trained in Cuba, who reiterated in each of their words their support for the Cuban people in these difficult times, emphasizing that Africa will never abandon the only country that has always been willing to help regardless of the circumstances.
During the event, the Friendship Medal was awarded to the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Association, in recognition of its commitment and constant work in favor of solidarity between both peoples.
The activity also included the donation of books to the UNECA Library and a cultural exchange with a tasting of Cuban food, strengthening the historical and cultural ties that unite Africa and Cuba.
Today, tributes were paid to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on his centenary. In moving messages, it was demonstrated that those who are grateful have not forgotten him, and they expressed their appreciation for his love for Africa, recalling his legacy of solidarity and brotherhood.
This meeting reaffirmed that the bonds of solidarity and friendship between Africa and Cuba remain strong and will continue to grow into the future.
The celebration demonstrated that Cuba is not, and never will be, alone.
