Cuba Celebrates Anniversary of International Medical Collaboration in Zimbabwe

Harare, May 24, 2025 – The Cuban Medical Brigade in Zimbabwe received recognition today from the State Mission on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the beginning of the Caribbean country's international collaboration in health.

Specialized contingents have been present in this African nation since 1987, with 937 brigade members from 2000 to the current 14th, recognized by the national authorities of Cuba and Zimbabwe for its high scientific level.

The Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms. Susellys Pérez Mesa, praised the results achieved by the doctors and technicians in providing their services in hospitals in Harare, Buyawayo, and other needy communities.

Pérez Mesa recognized the professionals, including his Chief, Dr. María Eugenia García Céspedes, as well as the distinguished presence of the Zimbabwean delegation led by Minister of Health and Childcare Douglas Mombeshora at the recent edition of CubaSalud.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to their country and continued their work despite the campaign and attempts to discredit their humanitarian essence.

The celebration was an opportunity to present recognition to the teams providing services in Zimbabwe's two main cities, as well as individual awards to outstanding and vanguard members of the Brigade.

The mission team, doctors, technicians, and professors from Cuba at Bindura University, praised the dedicated work of health workers.

About 605,000 medical professionals have provided assistance in 165 countries since Algeria in May 1963, as an expression of Cuba's commitment to life, dignity, and social justice.
