Addis Ababa, July 29, 2025.- The Cuban delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, concluded its participation in the Second Stocktaking Moment of the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), held from July 27 to 29 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
During three days of intense work, the delegation held high-level exchanges with Ethiopian authorities, representatives of international organizations and key actors in the global food system. The agenda included technical visits, bilateral meetings and thematic presentations aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive and resilient solutions.
One of the main highlights was the presentation of Cuba’s National Roadmap for the Transformation of Food Systems, delivered by Elizabeth Peña Turruellas, Director of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture. The document, structured around 7 thematic pillars and 30 priority actions, was recognized for its comprehensive and multisectoral approach.
The Cuban delegation conducted field visits to productive areas in Adama, Modjo and Bishoftu, where they exchanged experiences with local stakeholders in agriculture, poultry production and territorial-level food system management.
On the bilateral front, Deputy Prime Minister Tapia Fonseca held a fruitful meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, in which they discussed cooperation opportunities in strategic sectors. He was also received by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hadera Abera Admassu, during which both parties reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen the historic bonds of friendship and solidarity.
As part of his interest in Ethiopia’s experiences in innovation and applied science, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the Ethiopia Museum of Science, a modern space dedicated to scientific knowledge dissemination and emerging technologies. He also toured the facilities of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), where he learned about flagship projects in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital transformation.
Cuba’s participation in the UNFSS+4 reaffirms the Island’s commitment to transforming its food systems, fostering international cooperation, and strengthening the Global South as a path toward ensuring food security and sustainable development.
