Vienna, September 10—Cuba’s ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, denounced in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the intensification of the U.S. blockade and the energy blockade, including their impact on the survival of cancer patients, especially children.
In addition to denouncing the impact of the energy blockade on all aspects of the Cuban people’s lives, he rejected Cuba’s inclusion on the illegal list of so-called state sponsors of terrorism and the executive orders of January 29 and May 1, 2026.
The diplomat warned that power outages, the lack of spare parts for medical equipment, and disruptions to the production of radiopharmaceuticals—which have an extremely short shelf life—are seriously compromising care for cancer patients. This is despite the immense efforts of the government and the island’s excellent healthcare personnel to mitigate these effects.
Finally, Berti Oliva urged the IAEA to speak out against these coercive measures, which undermine the human right to health and development and violate the right of all states to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
