Visit of the ICAP official to New Zealand strengthens solidarity with Cuba.

Wellington, April 27th 2016.- During a meeting held yesterday with visiting ICAP official Yexenia Calzado to New Zealand, members of Cuba Friendship Society in Wellington have ratified their solidarity commitment with Cuba, stressing the need for increased actions linked to the demand of a complete lifting of the United States blockade.

The occasion was also a good chance for the visitor to inform local friends the current situation and prospect of her country, after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with the United States and the results of the VII Party Congress, which recently concluded in the island. Yexenia was emphatic in expressing the will of the Cuban people to build a prosperous and sustainable socialism that preserves the principles of justice and equality achieved by the Cuban Revolution for more than half a century.

The young officer of ICAP thanked the group for their support and expressed that the ongoing process of dialogue with the United States was possible in first instance because of the Cuban people’s resistance, but international solidarity was also an important factor, which placed Washington in a situation of global isolation.

In another moment of his visit to Wellington, the visitor was received by the Caribbean Council, an institution devoted to promote closer links between that region and New Zealand. Addressing a diverse audience, Yexenia gave details on the persistence of the interventionist policy of the United States towards Cuba, aimed at bringing about change in the socio-political system. She also explained in order to achieve a real process of normalizing relations, talks should include handling back the Guantanamo Base and the removal of all subversive programs.

Yexenia´s program in New Zealand also included exchanges in Auckland with trade unions and the Cuba Friendship Society of that city. (Embacuba Nueva Zelandia)
