“CUBA MUST LIVE”: Linz speaks out in solidarity with the island

Linz, March 1. A demonstration in support of Cuba took place this weekend in the Austrian city of Linz. Organized by the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association (ÖKG) in the state of Upper Austria, it was part of the solidarity campaign “Kuba muss leben” (Cuba Must Live!), a new show of support for the Cuban people in the face of the intensifying U.S. blockade.

The demonstration is part of a series of solidarity actions that the Cuba Friendship Association is carrying out throughout Austria to support the island and counter coercive measures, especially following the U.S. President’s Executive Order issued on January 29, 2026, which tightens sanctions against the Caribbean nation.

During the rally, participants denounced that it is not the Cuban government that causes hunger, blackouts, or medical shortages, but rather the illegal economic war waged for decades by the United States, which is currently intensifying with the energy and fuel blockade. Attendees highlighted the Cuban people’s resistance in the face of coercive measures, pressure, and attempts at destabilization.

The organizers noted that “solidarity thrives on participation, on making itself visible, on joint resistance against imperialism, war, and double standards,” and thanked the participants for their presence at this event, which reaffirms that solidarity with Cuba is stronger than any blockade.

In Austria, the ÖKG and allied political forces continue to organize activities to raise awareness of the impact of the blockade and demand an end to this unilateral policy, which affects all sectors of the Cuban population.
