Cuba participated in the 105th session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The Hague, March 6, 2024. Yesterday, March 5, the Cuban delegation, led by Ambassador Anet Pino Rivero, participated in the 105th session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Weapons Chemistry.

During her intervention, the ambassador highlighted the importance of the OPCW reorienting its priorities towards international cooperation, after concluding the process of destroying the declared arsenals and effectively contributing to ensuring that the States Parties have the capacity to prevent and confront any Potential resurgence of Chemical Weapons.

She stated that: “Cuba ratifies its invariable condemnation of the use of chemical weapons anywhere, by any actor and under any circumstances, as well as its commitment to the full, effective and non-discriminatory application of all the provisions of the Convention.”

Likewise, she highlighted Cuba's commitment to the organization and its activities, demonstrated in its participation, for the third time in the Mentoring Program, on this occasion offering its knowledge and experiences in the application of the Convention to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

This was the appropriate space to reiterate the condemnation of the economic, financial and commercial blockade, imposed by the US government, with a marked extraterritorial nature, against Cuba. In this sense, she denounced that it is a continuous violation of the provisions of Article XI of the Convention and impacts the proper application of the Convention.

Finally, she referred to the importance of preserving and respecting the technical nature of this Organization and reiterated Cuba's rejection of the use of reports from unauthorized sources that lack technical and scientific rigor.

The 105th session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will continue to meet until March 8.
