The Hague, September 26, 2024. Cuba participated in the Associated Program of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), created to contribute to a greater understanding of the objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention and promote employment of chemistry for peaceful purposes, with emphasis on physical security in relation to chemicals.
The Cuban representative was Reynel Ramírez Sosa, a young chemical engineer and inspector in the area of hazardous waste, including chemicals, from the ORSA delegation in Camagüey. The program had a theoretical part and a practical part, which provided him with knowledge for his work as an inspector.
The Program is aimed at chemists and chemical engineers, mainly from Member States with developing economies. It was designed to provide them with access to the skills and experience necessary to work effectively in the modern chemical industry. In the 2024 edition, the program welcomed 29 participants, from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean.
