The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), one of the functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council, began its twenty-seventh session at the headquarters of the United Nations, in Vienna.
Cuba participates as a Member State of that body, with a delegation headed by the Representative of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Vienna and the International Organizations based in Austria, Juan Antonio Fernández; and also integrated by the Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Justice, Claudio Ramos; the Director of Criminal Matters of that Ministry, Yudit Napoles La O; as well as members of the Permanent Mission in Vienna.
During the plenary session of the first day of sessions of the Commission, a Ceremonial Segment took place in which the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, addressed the participants of the 27th session of the JPAC.
The highest representative of the United Nations referring to cybercrime, the subject that is at the center of the debates of this session, stressed that there was still much to be done; At the same time, he called for the responsible use of Information and Communication Technologies, for the benefit of all.
The Member States during the deliberations of this body, from May 14 to 18, will decide on resolutions related to crime prevention and criminal justice in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; prevention and fight against human trafficking; access to legal assistance and restorative justice, among other challenges.
