The Permanent Mission of Cuba to the International Organizations in Vienna participated in the official ceremony and the placement of a commemorative plaque on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the
establishment of the Group of 77 + China -Vienna Chapter.
Ambassador Carlos Játiva Naranjo, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, the country that assumed the presidency of this Group in March 2018, delivered the opening remarks of the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Missions and the officials of the Secretariats of the International Organizations which are based in the Austrian capital. The senior authorities of these organizations also
delivered a few words during the ceremony highlighting the active commitment and support of the G77 + China countries towards the work, principles and mandate of these organizations.
The G77 is the intergovernmental forum that brings together developing countries, and has become an important space of political agreement to promote and articulate the interests of our southern countries. It is also a significant platform of negotiations and a space for dialogue, which finds in Vienna the multilateral scenario to promote shared values and principles regarding: the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the struggle against the global problem of drugs and transnational organized crime, the promotion of sustainable industrial development, the nuclear non-proliferation and the preservation of outer space for exclusively peaceful uses.
Since G77´s emergence, Cuba has counted on the strong solidarity of its members. In the current international situation, we reaffirm our common commitment to coordinate efforts in order to achieve a just and equitable
international order, and that we can advance together in the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
