Addis Ababa, February 15, 2025.- The Ambassador Permanent Observer of Cuba to the African Union, Lucas D. Hernández Polledo, participated in the opening ceremony of the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), a key event for the future of the continent.
Within the framework of the event, Ambassador Hernández Polledo held meetings with several African personalities, including the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan; the Foreign Minister of Burundi, Albert Shingiro; the Foreign Minister of Tanzania, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo; the Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Simeón Oyono Esono Angue, the Minister of Health of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Salek Baba Hasanna among others
During these exchanges, the leaders reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba and highlighted the historical cooperation in different areas.
Cuba, with its historic relationship with Africa, reaffirms its commitment to South-South cooperation and the strengthening of ties of brotherhood with African nations.
During the Summit, the importance of the upcoming elections for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AU), the AU's executive body, which plays a key role in the implementation of the African bloc's policies and strategies, was highlighted. These elections will define the leadership of the organization at a crucial moment for the stability and development of the continent.
