Vienna, April 17. As part of the Tenth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety, held at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from April 13 to 24, 2026, Cuba presented its Third National Report, in strict compliance with its international commitments regarding nuclear safety.
The presentation was made by Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the international organizations based in Vienna, who outlined the country’s progress in strengthening nuclear safety for the safe use of nuclear applications and technologies.
The report presented by the Cuban delegation demonstrates the efforts made to strengthen the regulatory framework, train human resources, and foster technical cooperation with the IAEA and other member states, all despite the limitations imposed by the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade, which has intensified in recent months with measures that also affect the country’s nuclear sector.
The Convention on Nuclear Safety, adopted in Vienna in 1994, is the primary international instrument for ensuring nuclear safety worldwide, and its review meetings facilitate the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of cooperation among the contracting states.
The Cuban delegation also included Belkis Romeu Alvarez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, and Karlen Regaiferos Cruzata, Second Secretary of the Cuban Embassy.
