Nassau, July 14th, 2020. At the Nassau headquarters of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation, the Cuban ambassador to this country, Alejandro García del Toro was received by Jeffrey Beckles, executive president of that trade promotion institution.
The Bahamian CEO described several of the opportunities that open up in commercial and productive matters for the Caribbean countries, in a scenario complicated by the particular characteristics of their economies; but at the same time it represents a potential of development that can allow a better integration of the Caribbean economies. In this environment, he stressed that Cuba and The Bahamas can identify specific sectors with a view to increasing their trade. Agriculture, fishing and renewable energy were mentioned by the executive. In addition, he mentioned Cuban and Bahamian products whose exports could raise the level of trade between the two countries.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador said that only by promoting exchanges and contacts between the business sectors of Cuba and The Bahamas, will it be possible to explore areas promoting bilateral trade and overcome obstacles such as the difficulty of transporting goods and supplies by sea. He stressed that despite the realities imposed by the COVID19 pandemic, he continues to appreciate interest in Bahamian businessmen to articulate a flow of products, both Cuban and Bahamian, between the two archipelagos.
Charo Walker-Morley, head of the Commercial Information Service of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, also participated in the meeting.
