Ottawa, March 1, 2019.- On the morning of Thursday, February 28, Cuban Ambassador Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, gave an interview to Mr. Réjean Bourdeau from Québec French-language La Presse newspaper, at the Embassy of Cuba in Canada.
During the interview, the Ambassador Vidal Ferreiro commented on her most recent official visit to Québec City. She highlighted the traditional positive ties between Cuba and Québec —which have been consolidated after the signing in 2016 of the Joint Declaration between the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie of Québec and the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and the opening of the Québec Office in Havana, in 2017— and referred to the existing potentials to broaden these relations in various areas.
The Cuban diplomat seized the opportunity to report on the success of the Constitutional Referendum that had just been held in Cuba. She also denounced the US blockade on the island, whose extraterritorial scope threatens to escalate through the enactment of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act. End of suspension of Title III would, on the one hand, aggravate the damages that this cruel policy causes to the country´s economy and to the Cuban people, and on the other, it would affect the interests of companies from numerous countries, including Canada and the United States itself, that maintain mutually beneficial relations with Cuba.
In addition, Ambassador Vidal Ferreiro put forward Cuban Government´s position on the imperative need to defend peace and oppose US military intervention in Venezuela.
Mrs. Areadna Quintana, Press and Cultural Attaché at the Cuban Embassy, was also at the interview.
