Cuban Ambassador to Canada meets with Canadian Minister of International Trade

Ottawa, September 19.H.E. Julio Garmendia Peña Ambassador of Cuba to Canada, in a working visit to Global Affairs Canada, was received by The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Canada´s Minister of International Trade on Monday afternoon.

During the cordial meeting both parts underscored the historic bonds between the two peoples as well as their governments' will to further strengthen economic and trade ties, including investment. Cuban Ambassador thanked Canadian people and institutions for their gestures of solidarity after Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on the Caribbean island. Ambassador Garmendia Peña urged Minister Champagne and Canadian businessmen to attend Havana Trade Fair, FIAH 2017, in a huge delegation, as an indication of Canada´s uninterrupted and active participation in this kind of events.

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Ioanna Sahas Martin, Director, Central America and Caribbean Division at Global Affairs Canada, and Ms. Yanique Williams Policy advisor, Minister of Trade's office.

Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Giuvel Orozco Ortega and Cristina Ramos Moreno, Deputy Head of Mission and Economic Counsellor at the Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa, respectively.
