Addis Ababa, February 21, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, held a fruitful meeting with the Director of Public and International Relations of the Office of the Administration of the city of Addis Ababa, Ms. Meti Tamrat, to exchange on a joint project aimed at the restoration and beautification of the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Park.
During the meeting, both parties highlighted the importance of preserving this emblematic site, a symbol of the historical ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The meeting is part of the preparations for the commemorative activities for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ethiopia.
As part of the agenda, the Ambassador and the Director visited the park, where they evaluated the current conditions and technical details of the restoration project. The plan calls for the rehabilitation of green areas, renovation of memorials and infrastructure improvements to ensure a more welcoming space for the local community and international visitors.
In addition, both representatives explored possibilities for collaboration in the conservation of other historical sites that reflect the cultural and political ties between the two nations. In this sense, the possible restoration of monuments dedicated to the Cuban internationalists who supported Ethiopia was analyzed, as well as the creation of educational spaces that promote knowledge of common history.
Also present were the official of the Cuban Embassy, Natalys Dinza and Mr. Walelegn Desalegn, Deputy Director of the Office of Parks Corporation of the City Administration.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Cuba and Ethiopia to strengthen their bilateral relations through cultural and heritage projects that highlight the friendship between their peoples.
