Nassau, June 9, 2026. – The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, H.E. Mr. Juan Carlos Marcof Sánchez, held cordial meetings today with the Hon. Patricia Deveaux, Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the Hon. Senator Lashell Adderley, President of the Senate of The Bahamas.
During the meetings, the Cuban diplomat conveyed congratulations to both distinguished parliamentarians on their recent re-election to their respective leadership positions within the House of Assembly and the Senate, and wished them every success in the discharge of their responsibilities during the new parliamentary term.
On the occasion, Ambassador Marcof delivered letters addressed to Speaker Patricia Deveaux and Senate President Lashell Adderley from Esteban Lazo Hernández, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba.
In his message, the head of the Cuban Parliament warned of the real threat posed by a potential direct military aggression against Cuba by the Government of the United States. He also referred to recent statements issued by the Revolutionary Government, which draw attention to the intensification of hostile actions directed against the Caribbean nation.
The communication further notes that this escalation has been accompanied by new executive orders issued by the United States administration, which tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba, reinforce the energy siege, and expand the implementation of unilateral coercive measures that continue to adversely affect the Cuban people.
The message also reaffirms Cuba’s commitment to peace, the defence of national sovereignty, respect for International Law, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, while expressing appreciation for the longstanding solidarity extended by friendly peoples and parliamentary institutions around the world.
For their part, both parliamentarians reaffirmed the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and The Bahamas, as well as their willingness to continue strengthening exchanges and collaboration between the two countries and their respective legislative institutions.
