Cuban ambassador inaugurates baseball game in Austria to promote sporting cooperation

Vienna, April 5. - The Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Pablo Berti Oliva, made the inaugural launching of the baseball match between the Diving Ducks and Metrostars teams, in an event attended by Mr. Rainer Husty and Mr. Philip Weller, president and vice president of the Austrian Baseball Federation (ABF) respectively. This sporting encounter opens the doors for future exchanges between the Austrian Baseball Federation and its Cuban counterpart.

During the game, Ambassador Berti Oliva highlighted the importance of sports as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between peoples, as well as the potential for collaboration in the training of athletes and the development of baseball in Austria.

For their part, the representatives of the Austrian Baseball Federation thanked the representatives of the Cuban Embassy for their presence and expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue on issues of common interest.

Although baseball is not traditionally one of the most popular sports in Austria, in recent years it has experienced remarkable growth, especially among young people. The ABF, founded in 1984, has been active in promoting the sport, organizing national leagues and amateur tournaments. Austria currently has several active clubs, such as the Vienna Metrostars and the Wiener Neustadt Diving Ducks, which participate in regional competitions and seek to raise the level of the game in the country.

This exchange is part of the efforts of the Cuban Embassy in Vienna to promote sports as a tool for cultural diplomacy and reinforces the island's commitment to the development of baseball at the global level.
