The Cuban Ambassador to India, Juan Carlos Marsán, held a press conference at the Press Club of India in New Delhi to denounce the unprecedented intensification of the US blockade, just days before a new vote in the #UNGA on the Cuban resolution against this criminal policy by the US government.
Truth and justice will prevail, he concluded.
Among the points denounced, he highlighted:
- The signing of Executive Order 14380 on January 29 of this year, which declares Cuba an "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the US," under the pretext of imposing an oil blockade on the country.
- The signing of Executive Order 14404, imposing secondary sanctions on foreign companies that trade with Cuba.
- The unjust inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of countries "supposedly" sponsoring terrorism.
The Cuban diplomat condemned the devastating humanitarian and economic impact on the country, according to data from the report presented to the UN, namely:
- Losses of $8.083 billion USD during the past year, bringing the cumulative total to $178.7 billion since the application of the blockade policy against the country.
- Residential blackouts of up to 20 hours a day and more than 2 million people without a regular water supply.
- Critical impacts on the health system, with long surgical waiting lists and a shortage of medical supplies; an increase in the infant mortality rate, among many others.
- Serious disruptions to food production, transportation, communications, and the rest of the economy.
He pointed out that all these measures impact the lives of all Cubans, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
On October 27 and 28, the UN General Assembly will consider for the 34th time the resolution to end this policy. "Today it is Cuba; tomorrow it could be any other country," the Ambassador warned, calling for the international community's support for Cuba. Truth and justice will prevail, he concluded.
