Cuban Ambassador in India reaffirms commitment to the countries of the South.

Cuban Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas, participated in a panel organized by the Center for International Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, dedicated to "Inclusive Growth and Rise of the Global South". At the event, the Cuban diplomat assured that solidarity and international cooperation with the countries of the South is a fundamental principle of our foreign policy that defends a new international order that is fairer, more equitable and inclusive for those nations and highlighted the international medical collaboration of the Caribbean nation among its main expressions.

He also explained the results of the concluded Summit of the Group 77 + China in Havana and noted that the meeting was attended by more than 1300 participants from 116 countries and a total of 31 heads of state. He stressed that the results of the Summit show that it was a necessary and urgent event where the challenges faced by the nations of the South were realistically discussed, as well as the ways to solve the disastrous consequences of the current unjust international economic order. There was widespread concern about the effects of the multidimensional global crisis: the increase in poverty, the rise in the number of hungry people, soaring prices due to galloping inflation, increasingly frequent climate disasters; and practical actions were outlined to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. He pointed out that the declaration of the Havana Summit reflects the importance of greater impetus to South-South cooperation and emphasized the need for urgent reform of the international financial architecture to achieve equitable access to the resources needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Likewise, he underscored the strong condemnation at the Havana conclave of the unilateral coercive measures, contrary to International Law and the United Nations Charter, applied against several members of the group. At the same time, he explained the results of the recent approval by the United Nations General Assembly of the Resolution calling for an end to the blockade and thanked India and the representatives of the nations on the panel for the vote cast for the 31st time by the international community against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

The panel also included speeches by the diplomatic representatives of South Africa, Eritrea and the G20 coordinator/sherpa of India, Amitabh Khan and the dean of the Center for International Studies, Srikanth Kondapalli.
