Cuban Ambassador meets with Chair of the Austrian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee

Vienna, October 7. Cuban Ambassador to Austria Pablo Berti Oliva held a working meeting with MP Petra Bayr, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Austrian Parliament's National Council (Nationalrat).

During the cordial meeting, Ambassador Berti Oliva expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to resume working and collaborative ties and acknowledged the parliamentarian's long career in foreign policy and her defense of rights and global development.

The Cuban diplomat welcomed Ms. Bayr's previous public statements in favor of normalizing relations between Cuba and the United States, as well as her signing in 2020 of the Austrian petition for an end to the blockade.

During the exchange, the Ambassador explained the Cuban legislative process to the Deputy, particularly following the adoption of the Constitution in 2019. He also highlighted the current situation on the island and the negative impact on all aspects of the daily life of the Cuban people of the strengthening of the blockade and the inclusion of Cuba on the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism by the U.S. State Department. In this context, he requested Ms. Bayr's continued support in relevant parliamentary forums, including the European Union.

Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, particularly as 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Austria.
