Cuban Ambassador meets with Chairperson of the National Council of Namibia.

Namibia, May 31st, 2022 - Sidenio Acosta, Ambassador of Cuba to Namibia, held a fraternal meeting with Hon. Mr. Luka Sinimbo Muha, Chairperson of the National Council of Namibia, the upper house of the Parliament of the African country.

Both exchanged about the historical ties of fraternity that unite the two peoples.

Ambassador Acosta also commented on the state of bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Cuba. Similarly, he updated the parliamentary leader on the epidemiological situation in Cuba and the effectiveness of Cuban vaccines.

The diplomatic representative also mentioned the damage caused to the Cuban economy by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

Chairperson Sinimbo condemned this genocidal policy of the US government against Cuba and reiterated the solidarity of the country and his government to the Cuban people.

In addition, he thanked Cuba's support for Namibia during the struggle for liberation and after the country's independence, achieved in 1990.

The Cuban Ambassador highlighted Namibia's permanent condemnation of the US blockade in dissimilar national and multilateral spaces, such as the UN and the African Union. Similarly, he reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue bilateral cooperation with the Namibian people.

The National Council of Namibia is made up of 42 members. Every 5 years, the 14 Regional Councils, one per administrative region, elect 3 of their members to form the National Council. The function of this legislative body is to review laws approved by the National Assembly, lower house, and make recommendations on legislation with regional incidence.
