Cuban Ambassador meets with Ethiopian Airlines CEO in the framework of 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Addis Ababa, May 7, 2025.- The Ambassador of Cuba to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez Álvarez, held a cordial meeting with the Executive Director of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, in which issues of bilateral interest were discussed in the context of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador recognized the outstanding role of Ethiopian Airlines as the largest and most active airline on the African continent in terms of passenger transportation. She also highlighted the fundamental role played by the airline in the 90s by facilitating the transfer of Ethiopian students to Cuba to study, as part of the historical ties of cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Mr. Mesfin Tasew praised Cuba's record in Ethiopia, stressing that the ties between the two nations remain an example of brotherhood and solidarity.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Lemma Yadecha Gudeta, Commercial Director of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, and on the Cuban side, the Third Secretary of the Embassy, Natalys Dinza.

Both sides highlighted the symbolic value of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ethiopia, five decades marked by friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.
