The 40 publisher’s houses grouped together in the Publishers Association of Liberia held a mandate renewal ceremony, where their top leaders were elected for a five-year term.
The elections were significant because a significant portion of those elected are also members of the Board of Directors of the Liberian Union of Journalists, a Umbrella organization with more than 3,000 members and many more others smaller members.
The induction ceremony, attended by several ministers and members of parliament, included a brief but pleasant moment of exchange with the country's diplomatic corps. During this event, the Cuban Ambassador, Dr. Indira Lopez Arguelles, thanked Liberia for its support of Cuba in rejecting the US blockade policy against Cuba and also offered congratulations on Liberia's election to the position of non-permanent member of the Security Council, recently achieved by Monrovia.
