Namibia, March 17th, 2022- Sidenio Acosta, Ambassador of Cuba to Namibia, participated in a special edition of the national television program "Talk of the Nation". The space was dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Namibia, to be celebrated on March 21.
In addition, present at the exchange were Ambassador Tuliameni Kalomoh, an experienced Namibian diplomat, and Archie Whitehead, South African High Commissioner to Namibia, who attended virtually.
Panellists recalled the sacrifice of the Namibian people to achieve their independence from the South African apartheid regime. The three ambassadors referred to the international solidarity towards this cause and highlighted the decisive support provided by Angola and Cuba.
In this sense, the diplomats remarked on the victory of Cuito Cuanavale, a significant battle that led to the maintenance of Angolan sovereignty, the independence of Namibia and the subsequent end of apartheid in South Africa.
Ambassador Acosta recalled his participation in the war in Angola in the late 1980s and the sacrifice made by hundreds of thousands of Cubans who participated in the conflict. He stated that Cuba also celebrates the anniversary of the Independence of Namibia.
The participants also referred to the current situation in Africa and commented on the continent's main challenges for its development. In this regard, the South African and Namibian representatives highlighted the achievements made by Cuba, despite the US blockade, and added that for this reason, the Caribbean island should be an example for Africa.
Both African diplomats reaffirmed the solidarity of their respective countries towards Cuba and condemned the hostile policy of the United States. Ambassador Acosta thanked the historical support of this continent for the Cuban cause.
