Cuban ambassador receives representatives of the education workers' union in the Bahamas

Nassau, February 5, 2025. The Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas, Julio César González Marchante, received the President of the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) Belinda Wilson, at the diplomatic headquarters, with whom he had an interesting dialogue on educational matters.

The participation of the Union in the official delegation of the country that has been visiting Cuba for years to hire Cuban teachers at the different levels of education, vocational and technical education and special education, was discussed, which has allowed for more than 21 consecutive years, to have a brigade of Cuban collaborators contributing to educational training in the Bahamas.

The visit to Cuba of a hundred Bahamian teachers interested in discussing the Cuban educational system was also discussed and organized for next April.

The program will allow visitors to know institutions such as the emblematic University of Havana, schools for the care of children and young people with special educational needs and for technological education, as well as to participate in the events: International Conference on Digital Technology in Education and International Conference on Teacher Training, to be held in Santiago de Cuba and Havana respectively.

Also, the interest in contacting representatives of the Worker’ Central Union of Cuba and the Trade Union  of Workers of Education, Science and Sports of Cuba as well as in visiting historical and cultural sites was expressed during the visit to the Island.

The Cuban diplomat recognized the important educational collaboration developed between The Bahamas and Cuba for more than two decades and ratified the commitment to strengthen it.

Present at the meeting were Vernincha Simmons, member of the board of the Union, Angela San Martín Corrales, Head of the Cuban Educational Collaboration Brigade and Lisset Borrell Valle, Director of the Havanatur Ltd. Office.
