Addis Ababa, December 9, 2025.- In an event held this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the ambassadors of the Republic of Cuba accredited to Ethiopia and the African Union, Meylin Suárez and Lucas Domingo Hernández, took part in the ceremony marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The event was attended by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Ms. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, as well as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, along with members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Ethiopia.
During his remarks, the Chairperson of the AU Commission expressed Africa’s firm support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasizing that “solidarity is not symbolic; it is a moral imperative.” He reaffirmed the Palestinian people's right to an independent and sovereign State with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In this context, the ceremony served not only as a symbolic tribute to the Palestinian people but also as a call on the international community to intensify humanitarian and diplomatic efforts in defense of international law, human dignity, and peace.
