Cuban Association in Toronto condemns new U.S. measures against Cuba and calls for an end to the blockade

Toronto, May 3, 2026 — The Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto “Juan Gualberto Gómez” strongly condemned the recent executive order issued by the United States government, describing it as a new act of aggression against the Cuban people and their families.

In an official statement, the organization denounced that the measure intensifies the economic, financial, and commercial siege against Cuba, while introducing punitive provisions targeting individuals and entities, both U.S. and foreign, that collaborate with the Caribbean country.

The Association particularly rejected the characterization of Cuba as “an existential threat to the United States,” considering it unfounded and part of a narrative aimed at justifying the tightening of sanctions.

It also emphasized that the announcement of this executive order coincides with symbolic dates for the Cuban people, such as International Workers’ Day, when millions of citizens took to the streets in defense of their sovereignty and in rejection of economic pressure policies. It also highlighted the support expressed by millions of Cubans for their government through recent initiatives of popular participation.

The organization described these measures as an escalation aimed at economically suffocating the country and directly affecting the living conditions of the population. In this regard, it reaffirmed its confidence in the resilience of the Cuban people in the face of external pressures.

Finally, the Association reiterated its call for the lifting of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba, which it considers the main obstacle to the country’s development, and defended the right of the Cuban people to live in peace, with dignity, and without external interference.
