Monrovia, February 22, 2018, - In order to conduct a courtesy visit, the Charge d'Affaires of Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, was received at the headquarters of the Daily Observer newspaper last Thursday by its new CEO, Bai Best. During the meeting, the second Secretary Carmen Maury also participated on behalf of the Cuban side.

The Cuban diplomat thanked the disclosure of the Cuban reality that, from the digital platform or in the printed edition, has been received by the newspaper. At the same time, he expressed interest in continuing to strengthen ties with the Liberian journalistic environment, as part of the work of the Embassy.

For his part, the young director Best, in an atmosphere of cordiality, reciprocated the message of thanks for the visit. During the dialogue he offered useful and interesting historical data on the founding of the newspaper he directs, the development from abroad in the Gambia and then the performance back to Liberia, once the Liberian conflict ended in 2003. He offered a tour by the newspaper's headquarters, where not only the editorial team is available but also the printing press and the archive. The latter stores not only the copies of the Daily Observer, since its first printing in 1981, but also editions of other national publications and books.

The Daily Observer newspaper, the oldest and best-known newspaper in Liberia, was founded in 1981 by journalist Kenneth Best, father of the current director, and his wife. With a daily edition of 1 200 copies, it reaches 5 of the 15 counties of the country. The thematic axes of its editorial profile are: Politics, Business, Sports, Entertainment and Agriculture. Thanks to the use of new technologies, approximately 3000 people from different nations, including the United States, access its digital site, with 45% being Liberian. (CubaMinrex/EmbaCuba Liberia)
