Monrovia, October 17, 2018- On Wednesday afternoon, members of the management of the Liberian newspaper FrontPage Africa gave a warm welcome to their headquarters to the Chargá d'Affairs of Cuba, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The communicators Alpha Daffae Senkpeni, the principal sub-editor and Alaskai Johnson, assistant sub-editor, conveyed a message of recognition and respect to Cuba. On the Cuban side was also present the Second Secretary Carmen Maury Toledo.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat referred to the fruitful links that have been established with the media in Liberia, which has allowed to transfer the messages of Cuba and spread the Cuban reality from a different angle to what the great monopolies of communication do. He mentioned the fraternal ties that unite Cuba and Africa, from the historical genesis to the struggles for independence in Cuba; the subsequent presence of Cubans in the confrontation and eradication of apartheid and more recently in the contribution to the social development of sister nations with professionals from various fields and the training of African professionals in Cuba.
On the other hand, Johnson and Senkpeni recognize the resilience and achievements of the Cuban people "despite the blockade", as well as "the help that has been given to other countries despite its limitations". They underlined as "praiseworthy Cuba's effort to help Liberia in matters as necessary as the training of professionals and the fight against the Ebola epidemic." They recognized that between Cuba and Liberia "there are many similarities" and that these common points are essential to strengthen the bonds that exist between both countries.
Founded in 2005 by Rodney Sieh, a veteran Liberian journalist, the newspaper emerged as a digital medium in its beginnings and in 2008 began its printed version, which today reaches 1,500 copies daily. (CubaMinrex EmbaCuba Liberia)
