Monrovia, February 16, 2023 - As in previous years, the Mayor of Monrovia Jefferson Koijee extended an invitation to the Cuban Chief of Mission Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera for the celebration of the 44th anniversary of Monrovia, capital of the Republic of Liberia.
Every year on February 16, "Monrovia Day" is celebrated, a date on which the mayor is responsible for reporting on the governance of the city to its inhabitants and council members.
Under the theme "Peace in Diversity: a Monrovia for All," Mayor Koijee invited to the white flower throwing ceremony as a symbol of continued peace in Liberia, which took place on Providence Island.
Monrovia Day is commemorated to project Monrovia's identity, educate its residents on the fundamental essence of Monrovia's establishment as a city, and devise the best policy framework to safeguard elementary norms and values, Monrovia's strategic interests, as well as its integrity and cleanliness.
As every year, the celebration of this 44th anniversary was attended by the diplomatic corps and personalities who graced the celebration.
