Cuban children and young people living in Barbados celebrated on the occasion of April 4th.

Yesterday, April 6, members of the Cuban State Mission in Barbados and Cuban residents members of the Association of Cuban Residents “Martyrs of Barbados, gathered to celebrate the anniversaries of the Young Communist League and the José Martí Pioneers Organization.  This day not only paid tribute to the vitality and energy of our young people, but also reaffirmed the commitment to continue strengthening in them the values that unite them to our nation.

Youth is the engine of change, the symbol of hope and the future we all yearn for. Youth is the force that drives our society forward. They are the heirs to a rich tradition of struggle, sacrifice and love of country, forged by generations who have worked tirelessly for a more just and united world. Our young people are the Pinos Nuevos of which Martí spoke, they are the relay, they are continuity, and today's Cuba also needs to count on the young Cuban nationals who live abroad and who also love the land where they were born or where their parents were born and which they have taught them to love.

The children and young people who today reside in Barbados, even if they do not belong to these two organizations, participate in activities organized by the Cuban Embassy in Barbados and by the ACR “Martyrs of Barbados” through which they not only learn about the history and culture of Cuba, but also about the meaning of being responsible Cuban citizens committed to our nation, bearers of the ideals of Martí and Fidel. Each one of them can make a difference to the extent that they identify with Cuban identity and culture, with feeling the pride of being Cuban and learning to love and understand what justice and freedom mean for all humanity.

Let us celebrate this day together with great joy because the children and young people of our country who reside in this Caribbean island have also achieved satisfactory academic results.  The Ambassador of Cuba in Barbados, Yanet Stable Cárdenas and Yulenny Rivera Leliebre, president of the Association of Cuban Residents “Mártires de Barbados” gave recognition to four young Cubans and a Cuban-Barbadian girl who stood out in their schools for the academic results achieved. Each of them has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to their education by achieving outstanding grades, reflecting the effort, dedication and passion they have put into their learning.

It was a Sunday day of joy in which fellow Cubans from four generations of Cubans living in Barbados gathered to share, remember moments of their childhood and youth and transmit to the new generations present, their experiences of when they belonged to these organizations.
