Cuba’s Consul in Toronto, Tania Valenzuela Veiga, attended the 62nd Annual Convention of the Ontario division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).
During the event, Valenzuela Veiga conveyed a message of gratitude to CUPE Ontario for its years of solidarity with Cuba and condemned the cruel and unjust blockade against the island.
The convention featured a panel focused on the impact of war and conflict on workers and communities: funding for war and cuts to public services. Among the panelists was Julio Fonseca, President of the “Juan Gualberto Gómez” Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto and Co-Chair of the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC).
During his presentation, Fonseca referred to Cuba’s current economic situation, the impact of the blockade, and the solidarity work carried out in Canada in support of Cuba. He also explored what trade unions can do to help the Cuban people.
