Nassau, October 17, 2024. The festival entitled “On the paths of Cubanness” took place today in Nassau, convened by the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of The Bahamas at the RBC Auditorium.
During the program, a panel was held on moments of Cuban history, literature and cultural traditions, while a sample of the island's tourist attractions was exhibited, presented by the Havanatur office in the Bahamas.
Dr. Cristiana Fimiani, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the university campus, in her speech outlined the roots of Cuban culture, the richness of traditions and programs, highlighting its main artistic manifestations and exponents.
Ambassador Julio César González Marchante in his words highlighted the celebration in Cuba of the Culture Day, dedicated this year to the 120th Anniversary of the birth of Alejo Carpentier and to Art Instructors. She also thanked the Bahamian university institution for hosting the celebration, while announcing the upcoming celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Bahamian students and professors, Cuban residents, descendants, Cuban educators, health collaborators, solidarity friends and members of the Cuban State Mission in the Bahamas attended.
The cultural gala was led by amateur artists who represented various manifestations of Cuban culture, including poetry, theater, dance and popular dances. In the cast also made up of Cuban and Bahamian educators, the histrionics of the graduate as an Art Instructor in Cuba, Yarelis Ponciano Janes, stood out. With mastery and the Cuban keys, she taught basic steps of Cuban rhythms, getting the audience to accompany her in her practice. She also starred in a rumba that was attractive to those present.
Cuban culture is part of the curriculum of the aforementioned Department of the university institution, awakening the interest of teachers and students who are increasingly becoming familiar with our traditions.
