Cuban Culture Day commemorated at the Cuban Embassy in Canada

A tribute for the National Culture Day was held at the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa. The event was attended by members of the Canadian Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, friends of Cuba and Cuban residents.

The Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, highlighted that this day of culture is dedicated to the 156th anniversary of the singing of the Cuban National Anthem, “La Bayamesa”; to the Cuban writer and intellectual Alejo Carpentier, on the 120th anniversary of his birth, whose work is an obligatory reference for the studies of Cuban cultural identity; and to the 20th anniversary of the creation of the José Martí Art Instructors Brigades, promoted by Fidel Castro. The Cuban diplomat spoke about the complex energy situation the country is going through, due to the intensification of the U.S. government's policy, and thanked Canada for its expressions of solidarity.

During the event, there were presentations of different expressions of Cuban art such as music, dance and plastic arts, with works of outstanding authors such as Servando Cabrera, René Portocarrero, Eduardo Abela, Mariano Rodríguez, Fayad Jamís, among others.

The occasion was an opportunity to pay tribute to the identity of the nation and highlight the cultural values and traditions of our island.
