Cuban Culture Day was celebrated in Austria

Vienna, October 20,  With a small but moving activity, the Day of Cuban Culture was celebrated today by the collective of the Cuban Embassy in Austria, which during the last weeks has been carrying out actions within the framework of the Day for National Culture.

The celebration included the singing of the National Anthem on the 155th anniversary of its intonation a few days after the beginning of the struggles for Independence by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and another group of revolutionaries including Perucho Figueredo, an event that led to the decision to adopt October 20 as National Culture Day.

In addition, the participants made a reminder of the history and universal recognition of Cuban culture and many of its exponents and the ratification of the commitment to continue contributing to the legacy of our culture as shield and sword of the nation.

The activity was also the occasion for the delivery of a donation of ballet shoes by an Austrian citizen who in solidarity wishes to contribute to the continuity of this artistic manifestation in Cuba and its international recognition as part of the 55th Anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba.

Ambassador Pablo Berti Oliva thanked for the donation and recalled the important links of solidarity that unite Austria with Cuba in different fronts of action to alleviate the effects of the blockade and that from now on our ballet will have the solidarity footprint of the Austrian brothers.

The celebration was also attended by a representation of Cuban residents and friends in solidarity.

At the end of the activity, poems by José María Heredia, a prominent figure of the national culture to whom this year a special tribute was dedicated, were shared.
