Apia, September 4, 2017.- A Cuban delegation headed by the Director-General of bilateral affairs, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, arrived last night in this capital, to take part in the 48th Edition of the Pacific Islands Forum.
The Cuban diplomat kicked off activities Monday morning, being received by CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Samoa, Peseta Noumea Simi. Mr. Peñalver Portal expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and acknowledge the excellent organization of this event, which will last until Friday, September 8th.
During this first day, the Cuban delegation also held meetings with the Minister of Defence of Fiji, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola; and the Minister of Social Services of Niue, Billy Talagi. In all cases, it was possible to confirm both sides interest in further promoting bilateral ties and recognition to Cuba for its cooperation with the Pacific Region in the health sector.
The Pacific Islands Forum is the most relevant multilateral organisation of the homonymous region. At its 44th Leaders Meeting held in Marshall Islands in 2013, Cuba was admitted as a Dialogue Partner. (Embacuba NZ)
