The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA by its Spanish acronym), José Fidel Santana Núñez arrived on Sunday in Vienna leading the delegation that will be representing Cuba during the 62nd Regular Session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which will be held from 17 to 21 September, 2018 at the Vienna International Center (Austria).

As every year, the IAEA General Conference, its most democratic and representative body, brings together senior officials, government experts and representatives of all Member States, to consider a series of budgetary questions related to the mandate of the Agency; as well as to make decisions regarding other matters raised by the Board of Governors, the Director General and the Member States.

At the same time a Scientific Forum on topics related to nuclear science and technology is regularly organized. On this occasion, Cuba will also be participating in the Forum that will be entitled "Nuclear Technology and Climate: Mitigation, Monitoring and Adaptation" which will be held from 18 to 19 September.

Cuba is an IAEA founding member, an international organization which has maintained a close, fluid and active cooperation. At present, technical cooperation projects are developed according to the national priorities identified in areas such as radiological safety, food and agriculture, human health and nutrition, water and environment, and energy and industry.

The delegation of Cuba that will participate in the General Conference will also be composed of Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernández, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the International Organizations in Vienna; members CITMA, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of the Permanent Mission in Austria.
