Addis Ababa, July 29, 2025.- As part of his official agenda in Ethiopia during the Second Stocktaking Moment of the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, was received by Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hadera Abera Admassu, with whom he held a warm and productive meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Addis Ababa.
During the meeting, both parties highlighted the deep historical ties of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Ethiopia, built on more than five decades of mutual solidarity, political support, and collaboration in key sectors. In this regard, they particularly emphasized the celebration this year of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Tapia expressed gratitude for Ethiopia’s consistent support for Cuba in regional and international forums, particularly its firm stance in favor of lifting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Island, a clear expression of African solidarity with the Cuban people.
For his part, the Ethiopian State Minister expressed deep respect and admiration of the Ethiopian people toward Cuba, as well as the lasting legacy of Cuban cooperation in the defense of national sovereignty and human development in Ethiopia. He also recognized the significant contribution of Cuba to the training of thousands of Ethiopian professionals in Cuban universities, describing it as one of the most valuable legacies of the bilateral relationship.
Both authorities agreed on the importance of expanding political and technical dialogue and exploring new areas of cooperation in fields such as science, innovation, climate change, biotechnology and food production, for the benefit of their respective peoples.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to deepen a relationship based on brotherhood, mutual respect, and South-South cooperation, at a key moment for revitalizing ties between Latin America and Africa in the global context.
