In her remarks during a new solidarity dinner with her nation, held in Saint Andrews, Grenada, the Ambassador of Cuba to that country, Yadirys Echenique Paz, denounced the severity of the energy siege imposed against the Island and emphasized that unity between both peoples is today more necessary than ever in the face of imperialist hostility.
In her words, the diplomat acknowledged the effort of the organizers and coordinators of the campaign currently underway in Grenada, and highlighted that the initiatives being carried out are more than material contributions. “They are an expression of conscience and justice, and remind us that solidarity is the force that unites peoples in the face of adversity,” she affirmed.
The Cuban representative explained that the hostile policies of the United States toward her country, particularly the energy siege, have caused extensive power outages on the Island. She reflected: “Can you imagine a country where its citizens face the challenge of enduring an unimaginable number of consecutive hours without electricity? That has been my country this week.”
At another point in her intervention, Echenique Paz evoked the legacy of Fidel Castro in the year of his centenary and also recalled Maurice Bishop as a symbol of unity between Cuba and Grenada.
Echenique Paz expressed gratitude for the presence of the participants, among whom were Senate President Dessima Williams; Minister of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Lennox Andrews; and Minister of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture, Adrian A. Thomas.
