Cuban drugs given to Vietnam for the fight against COVID-19

Cuba gaved a batch of national drug Interferon Alpha 2B to Vietnam, to support the Indochinese country's combat against the COVID-19 pandemic, in a ceremony chaired by Ambassador, Lianys Torres Rivera, and the member of the Communist Party Central Committee and Vietnam Deputy Minister of National Defense, Colonel General Nguyen Chi Vinh.

In the symbolic acceptance ceremony, the diplomat highlighted the application of Heberón, the drug's trade name, in COVID-19 patients, and its favorable effect on reducing the fatality rate among heavy cases.

Since its introduction into the Cuban health system three decades ago, this product has proven its effectiveness in therapies against viral diseases such as Hepatitis b and c, Herpes Zoster, and HIV / AIDS, the diplomat stressed.

Torres Rivera highlighted the prestige of the island's biopharmaceutical sector for the well-being of its people and others, even though Cuba is a developing nation that has faced an economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and reinforced by the current government of that country.

For his part, Nguyen Chi Vinh highly valued the arrival in Vietnam of the Cuban medicine, created by scientists from the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in the second half of the 1980s.

The military leader said that in addition to material support, the gesture of the Caribbean country has a spiritual value, as it shows the commitment of both countries to a common response to COVID-19.

Both representatives celebrated the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, when the two countries reach 60 years of diplomatic relations this 2020.
