Addis Ababa, October 7, 2025.- The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba accompanied with deep sorrow the funeral remains of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Cuba, Mr. Ayele Lire Jijamo, upon the arrival of his body in his native country.
The solemn ceremony, which continued from the early hours, was attended by President Taye Atske-Selassie, former President Sahle-Work Zewde, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Cuban Mission in Ethiopia, members of the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Association, family, friends and diplomatic colleagues.
Ambassador Ayele was remembered for his long career, his dedication and his distinguished service to the Ethiopian diplomatic corps. His passing leaves a deep mark on all who had the honor of knowing him and working alongside him.
For Cuba, his loss is a moment of deep sorrow. Ayele will always be remembered with gratitude and respect for his sincere friendship toward the Cuban people and for his valuable contribution to strengthening the historic bonds of brotherhood between Ethiopia and Cuba.
