Cuban Embassy and UNESCO in Addis Ababa carry out visit to Harar

Addis Ababa, November 29, 2025.- The UNESCO Office in Addis Ababa successfully concluded a diplomatic visit to Harar and Dire Dawa on November 28 and 29, bringing together a delegation of 35 participants, including 25 ambassadors, as well as representatives from various UN agencies and programs.

The Cuban Embassy also took part in the visit, represented by the Ambassador of Cuba to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, and the Ambassador to the African Union, Lucas D. Hernández.

During the two-day visit, the delegation participated in a program specially designed to highlight the cultural heritage, living history, and development opportunities of Eastern Ethiopia:

  • Exploration of the Harar Jugol World Heritage Site, with visits to the Arthur Rimbaud and Sherif museums.

  •  

  • Traditional hyena-feeding experience, one of the most emblematic rituals of the walled city.

  • High-level meeting with the mayor of Dire Dawa and tour of the Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone, where key projects for the region were presented.

  • A journey on the historic railway between Djibouti and Ethiopia, a fundamental legacy in the country’s commercial and cultural connections.
