The Cuban Embassy in Liberia is already celebrating July 26th.

Monrovia, July 13, 2020 - Despite the current scenario due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, this July 26 will be another opportunity for all Cubans to pay well-deserved tribute to the heroic deed of 1953.

The staff of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia, headed by the Chargé d'Affaires Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera, has prepared a plan of activities on the occasion of the celebration of the "Day of National Rebellion", which began last Saturday.

One of the activities listed in the plan consists of cleaning and beautifying the exterior and green areas of our diplomatic headquarters.

On July 26, 1953, a group of young Cubans led by lawyer Fidel Castro assaulted the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Bayamo. The purpose of the armed actions was to overthrow the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959).

When they did not achieve their purposes, they were arrested and in the trial Fidel divulged his historic plea "History will absolve me", the Moncada Program which reflected the possibility of achieving a better Cuba.
