Monrovia, June 14, 2022 - Maceo and Ché, paradigms of the Cuban revolution, men united by the greatness of their actions, by one of those inexplicable coincidences of history, were born on June 14, but 83 years apart.
When this date falls on the calendar many remember them. Maceo and Ché are united by that date that seems not to die in the memory of Cuba, that seems to be tattooed in the minds of those who are grateful for their dedication to the freedom of this Island.
It seems as if the qualities of the former were reincarnated in the latter and both, united in glory, set the bar at the highest point of courage, internationalism, ethics, honor and intransigence in the struggle against imperialism and colonialism. Both men are paradigms of the Cuban revolutionary people, beyond the historical coincidences of their day of birth.
For their talent and rebelliousness Antonio Maceo Grajales and Ernesto Guevara de la Serna are equal in time, they are united by their struggle in favor of the independence of the Cuban people.
Of them, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz would say: "Maceo was already a legendary character when Che came to the world. If one affirmed that whoever tried to take over Cuba would collect the dust of its soil drenched in blood if he did not perish in the struggle, the other drenched the soil of Bolivia with his blood trying to prevent the empire from taking over America. Both were invaders from East to West; both died in combat; both are today unsurpassable symbols of courage and revolutionary intransigence".
