Vienna, September 17, 2025. The exhibition and presentation of the book “Los Caminos de mi Vida” (The Paths of My Life) by Chilean artist Luis Villarroel took place yesterday in the Frida Kahlo Room of the Austrian Institute for Latin America. The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of the Latin American community in Vienna, and art lovers.
Villarroel's paintings and photographs reflect a deep connection to his homeland, Chile, capturing both the emotional upheavals and political changes that have marked his personal life and the history of the country.
During the opening, the artist presented his recently published autobiography, in which he intertwines his personal experiences with the collective memory of the political and social struggle in Chile. Villarroel recounted his journey as a worker, artist, and photographer, whose political awakening developed in the context of the class struggle of the 1960s and 1970s.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until September 25, 2025, offering visitors the opportunity to appreciate Villarroel's works.
The participation of the First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Austria, Lisset González, in this cultural event reinforces the bonds of friendship and solidarity with Villarroel, who has a very close relationship with Cuba. The artist is a long-time activist with the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association. Noteworthy is his participation, together with his partner Ana Moreno, in the campaign for the release of the Cuban Five, who were unjustly imprisoned in the United States. In this context, the Chilean couple promoted campaign activities, prepared exhibitions on different topics related to the Cuban reality, and donated several works to raise funds.
