Dr. José Fernando Martirena Hernández, director of the Centre for Research and Development of Structures and Materials (CIDEM) of the Central University Marta Abreu de Las Villas (UCLV), made a working visit to the United Kingdom as part of his international academic collaboration agenda in the field of technological innovation and sustainability in construction materials.
Dr. Martirena is also a representative of the Science and Technology Interface Society (SICTE S.A.) of the UCLV and has held exchanges with companies linked to the development of sustainable technologies, including the British company Ibstock.
As part of his programme, Dr. Martirena gave a lecture at the British university Imperial College London (ICL), where he shared Cuba's experiences in the LC3 project (low carbon cement), developed by his team at the experimental plant of the UCLV. This innovative approach seeks to transform the cement industry towards cleaner and more environmentally responsible production.
ICL is one of the institutions that has been a pioneer in the study of cement and concrete, with a track record of excellence that extends from its origins in civil engineering to current research in sustainable materials. This academic dialogue opens up new opportunities to strengthen scientific cooperation between Cuba and the UK on strategic issues for the future of the planet.
