Cuban film will open Ibero-American Film Nights in Vienna

Vienna, Aug. 19. The Cuban film “Buscando a Casal” (2019) will open the Ibero-American Film Nights in Vienna, a festival organized by the Cervantes Institute of Vienna, on September 23.

In its promotional program, the organizers expressed the desire that the Austrian public, and in particular Spanish-speaking residents, come during the four days of the festival to enjoy samples of the filmography of countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay and Ecuador.

“Buscando a Casal”, directed by Jorge Luis Sánchez, is a work dedicated to the figure of the Cuban modernist poet Julián del Casal that focuses on his work as an intellectual and in the face of Spanish power. The film has received several awards and nominations. It won the main prize in the Fiction category at the Cine Plaza 2023 Festival in Havana. In addition, it was nominated for Best Ibero-American Film at the Goya Awards and was considered as an Oscar contender in the Best International Film category. It has also been nominated for Platinum Awards in several categories, including best original music, acting and art direction.

Ibero-American cinema is recognized for its diversity, stylistic and expressive strength, as well as for the fascination of its stories. On this occasion, during the Ibero-American Film Nights in Vienna, the films presented will be subtitled in English to reach a wider audience.
