Cuban Folkloric Ensemble performs in the Indian capital.

The National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba, which is visiting India, performed at the Bahai House of Worship auditorium at the Lotus Temple in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in India in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Lotus Temple. The show titled "The Root and the Time", included different songs and dances representative of the tradition and cultural richness of the Cuban nation, dances referring to Yemayá, Elegbá, Ogún, as well as sones, boleros, rumbas, mambo, casino and conga. 

 

In his opening remarks, Cuban Ambassador Alejandro Simancas highlighted the presentation of the Ensemble as a symbol of the cooperation that unites Cuba and India, as well as a stimulus for the promotion of bilateral cultural exchange. He also thanked the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, who is currently on an international tour, for her substantial support to the strengthening of cultural relations between the two peoples.

The show was very well received by the public, which was won over by the popular dances and dances that characterize the Cuban identity. The famous Indian dancer Sonal Mansingh, diplomatic representatives from more than ten countries, teachers, students and friends of Cuba in general were present. 

The Cuban Folkloric Ensemble will culminate its visit to India today, with a presentation at the University of Delhi, one of the main educational centers of the country.
